Friends, I do not have to attend my school except the music class once or sometimes twice a week. My music school is not so far from my home. I take a bus to go to a class. Since I am grown up and do not go to school every day, I decided to interview one boy in my neighborhood and his name is Jack. You would love to know about his life as a kid. Every day I see him going to school, playing soccer with his friends in free time, going out for a movie with his family. Is his life similar to yours in some manner? Stay tuned to get wonderful answers from Jack!
For breakfast I have chocolate cereal with warm milk, one slice of toast with cheese and jam, maybe a glass of apple juice or fresh cut fruit.
Mostly we have clear vegetable soup with rice and noodles, or a tofu curry, but sometimes I have my lunch outside.
I have panini sandwich, pizzas, noodles or pasta with garlic bread at dinner. The choice of food depends on our mood.
I live in a condominium. My house is not that big but there are two bedrooms, one hall and a kitchen. Though my living room is spacious, we like to use it as a cricket (a popular sport in Singapore) field sometimes.
I have many things to deal with. I hardly get a time to do anything besides homework. But my mom insists on me doing my work by myself if possible. I do help my mom and my brother in cleaning my room as me and my brother share our room. Sometimes I have to check the doors and windows of the house before going to a school because my mom leaves for office early.
My father is a businessman and mother works in a bank.
My school starts at 7:00am and goes until 1:00pm but sometimes if I have an extra class I stay until 3:00pm.
My older brother Harry and I leave for school together. We take a bus to go to school. Sometimes my mom drops me by car if she has to leave for her office late.
Normally we have our lunch after coming from school. We have rice, soup and curry at home. Sometimes I have noodles, pasta and pizza at the school cafeteria.
We say “ni hau ma?” That means “how are you?” in Chinese. Though people speak English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil in Singapore, English is the main language of communication in schools, offices, public places and also in shopping malls.
John, Harry, Thomas, Sheena, Mary are few common names of boys and girls in my class.
I study English, science, mathematics, social studies, art and craft and music. I am really interested in English and science.
My homework is like sort of tiring work. I am in fourth grade now. We have a big examination every two years. Since it’s my first exam I feel stressed. Since beginning school, I have been taught that ‘’reading is a fun’’. Do you think that? It also helped me to develop my vocabulary and complete my homework faster than normal.
After coming home from school I have my lunch. I would prefer to take 20 minutes nap to get recharged again. I think it gives me some energy to complete my work faster. I would prefer to play an organ, or play video game especially car racing with my brother. Soccer is my favorite sport which I love to play a lot.
I would like to be another Obama.
I love to listen to the music of Michael Jackson and Shakira.
I would like to be a doctor or a pilot when I will grow up.
I would love to go to Paris and New York.
According to me, the United States is such a big country. I have heard that life is very fast there especially in New York and that the education system is also very good.
Is your life different than mine? Do you want to visit Singapore if get a chance? Are we friends now?
