Logbook: The City of Changsa

This week I traveled to visit my uncle in Changsha, China. My mom came all the way from Pennsylvania to visit me, and then we flew to her brother, my uncle’s, house for a little visit!

This is another city in China, although it is not one of the most popular cities (like Shanghai, Beijing, or Guangzhou). My uncle, who is German, is working for a German company and living in China for a few years and working with a part of the company here in China. It was very nice to see him in a new place, not the United States or Germany. Join me as I discuss this trip with you a little more!

Local Time: 1:00 P.M.

How far did we travel this week? Changsha is 529 miles from Shanghai. The plane flight is around 1 hour and a half, so it is not very long. It is southwest of Shanghai, so it is a little warmer and little more rural.

What was the most interesting place we visited this week? Changsha is a city with many tall building and busy streets like Shanghai. The most interesting place I visited was the countryside of Changsha. My uncle took me and my mom to his friends’ house in the countryside for a ‘real Chinese meal’ and to see the rural countryside. It was beautiful, as you will see in the pictures. I also made some new friends, with the girls you met in my ‘Kids’ blog.

This Week’s Travel News: My uncle took us all over and around the city of Changsha. The first day we went into the city to shop and walk around. He then took us to a tea shop. China is very well known for its very delicious and natural tea. At this shop, we sat down and were served many different teas, which each have very special stories. The leaves come from all over China, and are different ages. The story of tea is very interesting!

We then went out for hot pot dinner. Basically, you sit around a table that has a very big boiling pot of water and seasoning in the middle. You cook your own food based on what you want to eat.

The next day, we went to the countryside to meet his friends. Since I am always in the city in Shanghai, I really enjoyed seeing something different! This was probably my favorite day.

The next morning we shopped at a famous street in Changsha with mini little local shops. Lastly, we went to a very fancy brunch with endless food and desserts! It was so good!

Weather Tally: My mom and I were in Changsha for three days and on all three days it rained heavily!

What is the air temperature right now? The temperature was in the high 60’s – low 70’s

How was the weather this week? The weather was very, very rainy!

What was the coolest thing we saw in nature this week? In the countryside, you can see the rice plants growing. Rice is a very popular food here in China. Rice or noodles are eaten with nearly every meal, so I really liked seeing how rice grows.

This Week’s Nature News: The weather was very rainy and warm. It is April so, as they say, “April showers bring May showers.” Luckily, we were still able to see very interesting things.
