Logbook: Touring Turkey

Finally, I get to see more of Turkey. Our school took a seven-day excursion around the east coast of Turkey. On our journey we ventured to Ephesus, Bodrum, Pergamon, Selcuk, Gocek, Antalya and Cyprus. This list goes on of the places we seen. It is a wonderful way to see most of Turkey!

Local Time: 5:36PM

Time Zone: EET UTC/GMT +2

How did I get around this week? We were on a big shuttle bus that drove us to all these places. We would sleep on the bus then wake up and be in a totally new place!

What was the most interesting place I visited this week? Ephesus was probably the most interesting place I visited.

Other travel news: A lot of the places we have visited remind me of Roman ruins. Have you been to Rome? As an architecture student, I studied Roman architecture, since that is the oldest and most influential type of architecture. One place we went to is called Ephesus. Ephesus was an ancient Greek city, and later a major Roman city, on the coast of Ionia. It is near present-day Selçuk, Izmir Province, Turkey. It was one of the twelve cities of the Ionian League during the Classical Greek era.

Weather Tally (enter the # of days for each weather type):

Sunny: 4

Cloudy: 0

Partly cloudy: 0

Rainy: 0

Snowy: 0

Windy: 3

What is the air temperature right now? 60 F

How was the weather this week? The weather is warm but it could be warmer. It is very sunny but it is still very windy so you need to wear a jacket. I wish it was just a little bit warmer, and then it would be perfect weather.

What animals did I see this week? Of course, there were cats and dogs like usual. I have seen a lot more bugs here, however. There were brown grasshoppers and beetles!

What was the coolest thing I saw in nature this week? Definitely the landscape in general. There were trees on larger hills everywhere.

What languages are spoken here? The native language is Turkish. It seems like people speak less English here. There are also tourists from all over the world so they speak many other languages.

What type of money is used here? Turkish lira and euro. While Turkish lira is the national currency, euros are used here, too, because most tourists have only euros.

How much does a bottle of water cost? Around 1.50 Turkish lira

What was the best meal this week? Meatballs with cheese baked in an oven with green peppers and tomatoes.

What music did I listen to this week? Just the music on the bus. Other than that, I am usually sleeping or we are viewing some new place where there is no music playing.

What did I read this week? Again, I did not have time to read because we are traveling so much and sleeping on the bus.

What games or sports did I play this week? We did not stop anywhere to play sports or games. We did play I SPY on the bus! You know that game, right?
