What’s it like to be kid?

What is your house like?

My house is yellow and it is located in Charlesville in South Africa.

What do you eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner?

I eat different things for these meals. Usually for breakfast, I eat cereal. For lunch, I pack a sandwich. For dinner, my mom cooks different things like samp, rice, vegetables and meat. Samp is a South African food made from ground corn.

What chores do you have at home?

I have to organize my room, clean the bathroom and help my siblings clean the living room.

What jobs do your parents have?

My mom is a teacher.

What time does school start? And what time do you go home?

School starts at 8am and I go home at 2pm.

How do you get to school? Are you allowed to go to school by yourself?

My mom drives me to school because my school is not in my town.

What do you eat for lunch, and where do you eat?

I eat lunch at my school. I usually eat the sandwich that I pack! What do you eat for lunch?

What language do you speak at school? How do you say Hello in your language?

The language that I speak at school is English. In my native language of Xhosa, “Hello” is translated as “Molo”.

What are some common kids’ names at your school?

Bogani and Luthando are a few common names. Have you ever heard of these names?

What subjects do you study in school, and which one is your favorite?

We study math, English, writing and other subjects. My favorite is writing.

What is your homework like?

We have to complete different reading assignments and answer questions about them.

What do you like to do after school?

I like to play with my friends after school.

Who is your favorite famous person?

I love Justin Bieber! I’m sure you have heard of him.

What kinds of music do you listen to?

I listen to a lot of different types of music. What types of music are popular in America?

What would you like to be when you grow up?

I want to be a singer when I grow up. Just like Justin Bieber!

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I am not sure.

What do you know or think about the United States?

I think the United States is a nice place to live.

What questions do you have for kids in the United States?

I want to know what life is like in the US? It may be similar or different to South Africa.
